Academy Sports and Outdoors is the Official Sporting Goods Provider for Delwood Sports.
Welcome to the home of Delwood Sports. We offer PONY baseball and softball for ages 4-14 and a growing soccer program.
Update: July 27th -- The City of Austin informed us that our facilities are to be closed through September 8th. As we get closer to that date, we will open up Fall registration once we have a better sense if that date will hold.
Update: May 31st -- The following letter was sent to all registered participants:
We hope that you and your families have been well. I write today to share our plan for operations at Delwood Sports.
*** The Decision ***
First, we are not going to hold an organized season this summer. Effectively, this means we are cancelling the Spring Season and will look to play a Fall Season.
All Spring Season registrations will be transferred to the Fall 2020 season. For the sports that have had jerseys distributed, we ask that you bring those same uniforms to use in the Fall Season.
We will be reaching out over the next six weeks to determine who is able/willing to play in the Fall, so we have an idea of how many slots we have to fill, how many jerseys for new kids to order, etc.
The intent for Spring Season players will return to their same teams in Fall 2020. We know of at least one coach who is opting to not return in the Fall, so we’ll have to figure that out.
If you can not or do not wish to play in the Fall 2020, we will offer a discount for the Spring 2021 season, but there will still be a new registration fee. Since some kids age out into a new age group in the Spring, we will continue our policy of having a skills assessment and assign new teams for Spring 2021.
Between now and the Fall 2020 season, Delwood may host clinics, allow practices, and possibly have a team playing other leagues this summer. Specifics regarding this will be sent out as it happens, but none of that will impact registrations. Everyone’s Spring Season registration will be moved to the Fall Season whether or not they attend activities over the summer.
*** The Explanation ***
There were a few different things that went into this decision. While the governor’s executive order allows us to return to the fields this week, we only received the City’s rules regarding implementation on Friday. The guidelines we have to operate within are still changing pretty quickly. There’s a lot there for us to parse, understand, plan, communicate, and implement and, as an all-volunteer organization, we need time. We are starting now to be able to feel confident that we are doing best by you, your children, and our local official guidelines for the Fall 2020 season.
Secondly, in communicating with coaches, the vast majority of our coaches indicated that they would not be able to or did not wish to coach a regular season during the summer.
There were other considerations but those two were substantial enough for us to decide to push everything to the Fall 2020 season.
We appreciate you and everything you’ve done over these last months. It hasn’t been easy figuring out work, schooling at home, the ever-changing rules on what’s going on. Our goal has been the safety of our children and families as best we can do with the information available with the intent of returning as soon as we feel confident we can do so in a safe manner.
In the coming months, we will be planning and preparing for the Fall 2020 season—everything from practices to cleaning schedules to logging people who attend events (part of the City’s guidelines for us) to concessions and more.
We’re also reviewing all our expenditures. As you can imagine, by pushing all registrations to the Fall Season, we are reducing our income from registrations by 50% and with the economic uncertainty of local businesses when SXSW’s cancellation was announced, our local business sponsorships are virtually non-existent.
Between the current guidelines, our financial picture, and who knows what will happen by August, the Fall 2020 season may look very different than we’re used to. We appreciate in advance your understanding and patience.
