Update: 3/19/2020 - The following message was sent out to our coaches:
An update on Delwood overall: The mayor’s order for no gatherings larger than 10 people includes us, so all activities at Delwood are suspended until the mayor’s order has been revoked or expires. It is currently set to expire May 1.
We will not play any games (home or away) nor have any practices during that time at any location. Having just you and your players together automatically exceeds the legal size.
For Delwood baseball: If the order is revoked early or allowed to expire on May 1st, we will have a compressed season roughly for the month of May. We’ll publish a new schedule as that gets closer with intraleague games and hosting any other league willing to play. We will aim to have a weeknight game and a Saturday game for each team, taking Memorial Day weekend off. We may suspend some rules related to coaching (e.g. 8U coach-pitchers can’t coach their players by rule and 6U only allows 2 defensive coaches on the field, etc) since we’re going without practice, but we’ll clarify that closer to a restart.
Under this scenario, we would begin on Saturday, May 2nd and would conclude our season by Friday, June 5th.
We are exploring possibly having a very low-cost summer season, especially for the younger age groups; we will send out questions later to determine if this is feasible.
For Delwood softball: The area leagues are trying to figure out if leagues would be willing to play games starting May 2nd to do something similar to baseball. At this time, we don’t know yet if this is possible.
All-Stars: With the shortened season, the uncertainty at this point if we can rely on May to restart play, and the lack of information from PONY on any modifications to their all-star process, we are opting not to participate in All-Stars this year at this time.
To be frank, it is a lot of time and money that need to start going into it very soon to make it happen. With our kids missing so much instruction on their primary rec teams and the uncertainty on when we’d be able to have try-outs or begin practices, we won’t be able to send solid teams. At this point, we don't know if we would even get any practice in before the tournaments start.
If and when PONY communicates any changes to their all-star process, we may reassess this decision, but, at this time, we’re not expecting to field All-Star teams.
Thank you all for your understanding. Our primary goal with the compressed Spring season is to maximize the ability for kids to play under the existing registrations and teams.
For Delwood soccer: We are still finalizing the plan and look to be making an announcement soon.
Stay well and hopefully see y’all on the fields in May.
